Jon Hamm spoke out for the first time since his rehab stint for alcohol abuse, saying his ordeal is “not for public consumption.”
“Life throws a lot at you sometimes and you have to deal with it as much as you can,” he said to TV Week. “That’s why you have family and friends and co-workers to help you with that.”
The “Mad Men” actor was in rehab for a 30-day stint recently; when news broke, his representative said his “longtime partner Jennifer Westfeldt” had been supporting him through the tough time.

“I’ve been very fortunate that throughout the most recent 24-hour period, I’ve had a lot of family and friends support me,” Hamm added. “I guess that’s all I will say about that.”
He also answered suggestions that playing a dark role for so long had a negative impact: “I’ve said in varying ways that acting can be a difficult endeavor, certainly not as difficult as the recent example I used of being a baby heart surgeon. But, it does present its own challenges and so does life.”

Hamm concluded that he wants his privacy: “I understand it constitutes news these days, but it’s between me and my family and not something for public consumption.”
